Our last Española Farmers Market month for the 2023 season. It's not too late to share and spread the Monday market spirit!

REMINDERS: October 9, 2023 is our annual celebration where our growers submit their largest veggies qualifying for this annual season. Also, October 31, 2023 is the last Monday market for 2023. Make sure you are there so we can all take note of the possible changes and support a new transition.

Don't close up shop yet! We're still keeping the doors in our brains open at the local farmers' market!

Never fear! We're still open and counting on you to take advantage of what's yet to come...
Changes are underway, and we're pleased about the response of those devoted to and counting on more seasons to come in 2024 and beyond.

We're thinking of the cooler months ahead when we set aside fresh produce from the Española Farmers Market!

"We will have the Contest Day on October 9th and the closing Day Potluck lunch on October 30th. The Market is finally normal after this very odd growing season, and I expect it will be full of produce until the closing day." This is a comment by market coordinator Sabra Moore who's facing a list of challenges this season. Stay tuned for more.
Freezers are full of green chiles. Then certain families are planning to send frozen chiles from New Mexico all over the world...to friends and relatives, of course. Some hard squash lasts through the early months of 2024. Line up and take one home between now and the end of October. And teach a young person the joys of growing, harvesting, and selling. It adds to the family's legacy. Nothing at a supermarket compares to what we offer.

We're closing in on the end of the season at the Española Farmers Market...

We're piling on the fun and the plans for the next market season. The market season takes work and vision. The people of Northern New Mexico are ready and willing to put in the time, energy, and imagination. We're scraping together our resources and ability to smile and dial. Let's keep the market alive and well during 2024.

Labor Day Celebration on Monday at the Española Farmers Market

YOU KNOW THE DRILL...Without you and family members heading over to the Monday market, we wouldn't be able to deliver. The annual seasonal farmers market offers free chile roasting on Labor Day. Each market is the same and also different. We're part of a grand tradition...There are over 8,000 farmers' markets in the United States today. We represent a long tradition of folks who have set up shop indoors and outdoors in our communities. We grow. We harvest. We catch up with the news of family and friends. We feature local music, hold classes, keep the spirit alive. Labor Day at the market is big. It's anticipated, and we deliver what we know is a terrific contribution to the larger regional community. Shop for fruits and veggies, locally grown. Trade tips and what's great about the market. You can't get items so fresh and loved.

All sorts of treats start at the Española Farmers Market, like homemade Carrot Cake!

We start at the market with fresh carrots. You're head is racing at the thought of making carrot cake. If you're thinking of a vegan variety, it can be done without eggs, and with them also. Once at home, the vision moves forward.

Remembering takes over the Española Farmers Market

The progress at the farmers' market is registered as time passes. We moved from different places over the years to our present location behind the college in Española. And then we had to deal with growing, fixing, organizing, and adding to the features added. Were you there? We were. And we have built quite a community since then.

Great news...the growers are targeting their largest veggies to submit in the fall contest!

You'd think that growers would get tired of watching and waiting for their babies to get big. Then the feisty ones are submitted this year, like last year. And the announcements aremade and posted.

The word has gotten out across the United States...The Española Farmers Market draws all sorts of folks!

The word has spread over our years of operation. We're listed on the USDA national web site. Which is why visitors from out of town go along with friends and family members to the Española Faarmers Market. It's a terrific place to meet others and catch up with the local news! Plus planning for dinner starts at the market. Young people choose books to read. The prices are reasonable. And so much more! Itching to hear some local music? And how about free chile roasting at the Labor Day Market? Come among!

We have come a long way at the Española Farmers Market!

This video below summarizes what our market manager Sabra Moore said 11 years ago when she remembers the beginning of the market and then fast forward her remarks to today when she updates her memories. Each year there are innovations. Each year much is the same. Today, Sabra remembers the changes. Volunteers have come and gone, but the same determination and spirit remains. What do you remember? What are your suggestions for the future? Who is missed? Who is ready to join in with the fun and responsibility? Let us know what you love, what you'd like to see continued? Why is the weekly market imortant for you? Send us your comments! We love to hear from you.

Our holiday market is on Monday, July 3 in 2023. Come on over!

The Espanola Farmers Market is a community institution. It brings people together. It encourages and supports activism. Concerned that your family eats the same green chiles you loved as a child? At the market we get our questions answered. We see friends and family members and check up with the news. We find out what's happening around town. This year is no exception. It's a reminder that the Fourth of July holiday will be celebrated at the market on Monday, July 3, 2023. Join us!

We're getting ready for the upcoming holiday Monday!

We're celebrating the Fourth of July holiday on Monday, July 3, 2023. This is a heads up so that everyone is on the same page. Our blog postings for the week are scheduled for Sundays. Get your recipe cards updated. Decide on your priorities for the week and the season. Keep in mind that the Española Farmers Market is usually slow in getting started. But the season speeds up fast. Every year we encourage young people to take advantage of the opportunity to grow and sell. This year is no exception. Tell the stories of those who have come before us and what they have done in order to keep fresh food on the table throughout the year.

The Española Farmers Market has what you want on Mondays, like tomorrow, June 12 through October 31, 2023

We're featuring some of the visual highlights that we've shared over the seasons. This includes going back to 2007 when we started the blog. So much has changed since then. And so much has remained the same. Remember when we moved over to our current location in 2007? We made a lot of noise in the transition.
The blog for the market has been publishing since 2007. Children will be able to select a book from our free Kids’ Book Exchange. The 2022 Market postcard will be available and you will also be able to find free bilingual recipe cards at the Market stalls, giving you ideas for how to prepare some of the tasty produce. We will have various foods cooking in the horno during periodic Market days; you can stroll in our Wildflower Garden or wander behind the plaza to see what is growing in the Community Fields. Join your neighbors and friends at the Española Farmers Market. Every Market is a special day!

We document the past and carry our market memories into the future. . .

The Española Farmers Market isn't here and gone tomorrow. We're getting closer to preparing for the 2023 market season. We have been blogging for the past 15 years and we have been setting up fruit and produce tables for much longer. Our market video has been a hit and now we can look back at it, remember those who are no longer with us, and appreciate the MANY folks who have made the market what it has been and what it is becoming.
Don't forget....that in the next market season you will be able to:

Sunday, October 30, 2022

Thank you for being a supporter, grower, board member, customer, volunteer at the Española Farmers Market!

Thank you again and again and again! Without you, this Northern New Mexico treasure would not be possible. We are closing for the 2022 season on Monday, October 31, 2022. See you next year!
This photo is a blast from the past, and it shows us having fun...

We're getting ready to close the season until 2023! Give us a hand. . .

There is one recipe and one product we love to cheer about. Squash. Our recioe is for pumpkin. It doesn't matter. It is also called Spanish squash. We have summer and winter squash at the market. And the winter squash has a shell so thick that it lasts months into the future when it's stored in a cool place. It can be made into a veggie dish with seasonings. It can be transformed into soups and pies. It's local. It's delicious. Many families in Northern New Mexico depend on their locally-grown squash and pumpkins. You've seen these recipes before in Spanish and English. There are so many ways to use squash that we've been asked this year to repeat the recipes. Here they are.
We accept WIC, Senior WIIC, EBT (SNAP) and fresh RX as well as cash money. This season are offering Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) for SNAP customers. Each time you swipe your SNAP card, you will get an equal amount of bonus DUFB for purchasing fruits and vegetables.
