COMMENTS:
Hundreds of
farmers’ market customers visit us each month from June to October. As they
leave, loaded down with fruits and produce, they’re usually too tired to give
us feedback for the market blog. They depend on us for news, events, and special
occasions, but it’s off to the kitchen after a visit to the Monday market.
In person and
face to face, however, we hear a great deal. Folks usually start with the
following— “Thank you for all the hard work put into the Española Farmers
Market.” And then they add something like:
“My
granddaughter loves the free books she gets from the market table in the
children’s book basket. She’s quite a reader now.”

“The
Spirit of New Mexico. That’s what I call the Española Farmers Market.”

“The
Farmers Market has its own land now. What an accomplishment. Every seasons
there’s something new. I love the community garden and the way young people
join in with us.”

“Music,
dancing, affordable produce prices. As a family, we know how to roast corn and
chiles at home. Although if you buy at the market there’s free roasting on
certain days. We buy our heritage chiles at the Española Farmers Market. And I
love the heritage chile tastings and pot lucks. What an event!

“The
Española Farmers Market is a community outing for us where we meet family and
friends and new people too. I know where my squash is grown. And the Spanish
winter squash lasts until January.”

“I
buy holiday and special gifts at the market during the season and then set them
aside for later. When handmade candles are set out on tables for purchase, I
race over to see if there are any angel candles. They’re real beeswax candles
made by my neighbors.”

“Vintage
Northern New Mexican music. I know where to hear it. At the Española Farmers
Market. Musicians who know our favorites and they play them every market
Monday.”
