2019 is the 20th Annual Biggest Vegetable and Best Poem Contest!

A BLAST FROM THE PAST:

Farmers and friends of the Española Farmers Market celebrated the 19th annual Biggest Vegetable and Poem Contest last year in 2018. This year is the 20th contest. Who's going to win this year?

Last year Ross Vargas of La Madera grew the biggest pumpkin. Loranzo Quintana of Cuartales made the best ristra with a scarecrow figure holding a chain of chile peppers. Rudy Cordova picked the biggest apple from his orchard in Hernandez.

The market annual postcards continue to be popular. They are remainders of great summer seasons in the past.

You can be Sure of Local Products at the Farmers' Market!

DID YOU KNOW?

OUR FARMERS sell only produce grown or gathered by themselves in the county of Rio Arriba or contiguous counties (Los Alamos, Santa Fe and other neighboring counties). Exceptions may be made at the Manager’s discretion in consultation with the Market Board for specialty produce that would benefit the market.

Limited amounts of produce from neighboring farms may be sold by farmers on a temporary basis at the discretion of the Market Manager. No other reselling is permitted.

We post on this blog for the Espanola Farmers Market that opens in June and runs through October each year. Stop by anytime on Mondays from ten in the morning until five in the afternoon. There are many special events each season. The 4th of July holiday? We'll be open in July on our regular Monday to celebrate the holiday. Stop by the main table whenever it's convenient. And if you check the blog for special events and fun, you won't miss what keeps the market memorable and surprising!

The blog for the Española Farmers Market has been publishing since 2007. You bet we love our farmers' market!

The Española Farmers Market in the Spotlight!

THE MARKET IS BEING AWARDED WITH HONORS:

We won first prize in our category as a non-profit community blog in the 2019 communications contest for New Mexico Press Women. This is the second award for the Española Farmers Market this year. Marguerite Kearns has been editing and publishing our blog since 2007.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE COMMENTS ABOUT OUR BLOG:

"Each blog entry feels purposeful, updating readers on the status of the growing and harvesting season, upcoming special events, weekly activities, free items, and more. Each closes with a reminder of the market's seasonal timetable, and a call to action. The language is casual and friendly, along with contextual information about the market, its growers, and its history. It does a great job of describing the community of growers and customers, and the way the market site is given multiple purposes to better serve that community. The photographs and the video of the market were enticing, and helped demonstrate the importance of this market to the community..."

THE OTHER GOOD NEWS...

And then to spread the joy, we won third place nationally in this same blog category for the National Federation of Press Women. Earlier in 2019, the Española Farmers Market received additional recognition as the "Best Farmers Market" during the Food and Farms Day at the NM State Legislature during a special ceremony in January 2019.

2019 is an Award-Winning Year for us!

We're open for another year at the farmers' market. And it's a treasure we have here, ongoing in Northern New Mexico.

Our farmers and customers are local. We have terrific prices, incredible growers who are our neighbors, and it's quiet and subdues during these early days of the market. Come on over and experience the intimacy, the greeting and hugging that comes with being a regular customer.

Others are noticing what a wonderful experience is in store for shoppers at the Española Farmers Market. We won awards in 2019. There are books at every market for young people. Stop by the market headquarters table. And there's a rush that comes with walking out of the market each week with an enormous shopping bag of local produce.

The farmers market in town has some of the best fresh fruits and vegetables for prices you can't believe. Visitors from out of town visit us because the market is up there in terms of choices of local places to visit.

Are you having friends or relatives from out of town? Have them come along with you at the market for the rush that comes from being in the front lines of bringing fresh items grown locally into the kitchen.

And Now, the Good News for Española Farmers Market!

Are you ready for some good news about us? We're spreading the word about the three awards for the market in 2019.

We were thrilled with the news in January 2019 about being chosen as the Best Farmers Market during the celebration at the NM state capital during Food and Farms Day at the legislature.

And then we were delighted again when New Mexico Press Women gave us a first-place award for our blog this spring. We competed nationally for the National Federation of Press Women and received a third-place standing of entries across the US.

Now, isn't this splendid? Join us in the celebration during the regular growing season during 2019!
